Monumental InscriptionsA lovely lady came to talk to us at the GRO and she left us some info she had about information that was being written about. There are moves a foot (pardon the pun) to photo every gravestone in England.These are some sites we may like to look at: www.gravestonephotos.com www.memorial inscriptions.org.uk (she said there was a space) www.kentarcheology.co.uk I hope there is something of interest for someone, at least. Great initiative.
A similar thing is going in in the Netherlands that started out in the province of Friesland and is spreading to other provinces. The site is called Graftombe (grave tomb): http://www.graftombe.nl/index.php http://www.graftombe.nl/index.php?pagina=zoeken I must have already found hundreds of relatives this way that I would otherwise have had a hard time finding. I volunteered to do a small graveyard near my house. When you find the details of one or more graves by searching the site, a message is automatically sent to the owner of the site, who then sends you the photos by e-mail (so you can visually check the transcribed data). |
