Nanny Wright B 1793c

I haven't been on this site for a while as I've been concentrating on my Yorkshire folk, but I'm back (metaphorically) in the North Meols area, with Wrights.

My ggg grandmother Nanny Wright married John Rimmer in 1816 at St Cuthbert's. Although the marriage said Ann she used Nanny in census and children's baptisms, and based on her age in the various census I have her birth year as 1793c.

I have assumed she was Nanny baptised 22 Sep 1793 the daughter of Margaret.

I have just discovered the databases on Rootsweb (from a posting I read this week) and have had a look. Nanny is mentioned but with no information about a marriage etc. It also states that her father was Thomas Abram who actually married her mother Margaret in 1796. There seems to be no evidence to support this.

Going back to Margaret there are two baptisms in a likely time frame, both daughters of Richard and Ann. The database says her parents were Richard and Ann (nee Swift). I wonder why them as opposed to Ann (nee Rymer or Ball)?

I have tried contacting Joyce Otterstrom from the address on the database, but the E-mail came back undelivered.

My question is more about the database than the particular query - does anyone know how accurate the information is? Would there have been other research that would have confirmed Thomas Abram was really Nanny's dad? I have looked on A2A catalogue and found nothing although there may be something in Preston CRO.

It's very difficult doing accurate research around this area as there are so many people with the same names. I like to look at all the possibilities and note them all down until I can prove something one way or the other.

Joyce Otterstrom's database on Rootsweb is extremely accurate. There are mistakes, but she will make the necessary corrections if you can give proof that something is wrong. She has made several corrections for me, one in response to the transcription of a will which I had found which showed the father was wrong for my 5x gr grandmother. The most recent one was to do with the Blundell's as there were several John Blundell's and there was a bit of a mix up. I was able to give the dates of burial for these at St Cuthbert's where they occurred after 1837 and we managed to get them sorted out as she had been unaware of these later burials.

I would recommend that you re-send the email to Joyce as her mail box might have been full (I have had the occasional post returned as undeliverable but it gets through at the second attempt). She is anxious that the database be as accurate as possible and may even send you a report of her research which will include the sources. Be warned, though, the one for the Blundell's was 36 pages long and only involved 3 John Blundell's and their families.

I have just looked at that page on the database - you say there seems to be no evidence to support the marriage of Thomas Abram and Margaret Wright in 1796, but it says at the bottom of the entry that the information comes from the transcripts of the Parish Registers. Of course, whether he was actually her father is another matter. The only way to confirm this one way or the other would be to find a Bastardy Bond giving the name of the father.

Finally, the name Nanny is a variant of Ann, but was used as a separate name in the same way that Betty is a separate name from Elizabeth and Peggy is distinct from Margaret.

Do try again to get in touch with Joyce as she will give her reasons for what she has put on the database.

Thank you for the reply - I have sent another E-mail but it's come back again. I took the address from the Park Database and it's somewhat fuzzy so I may have it wrong. It looks to me like F.Otterstrom@msn.com

Does anyone have a different address please?
Bez

It's almost right

f_otterstrom@msn.com

Try it again with this address.
