I hadn't come across that before but....the first time Southport appear is with Scarisbrick 1950's.

The map Jane refers to listed as Scarisbrick appears to be virtually identical to my 1966 One inch ordinance survey map sheet 100 (Liverpool) Interestingly the OS map has the legend "North Meols" located a little to the east of the "bombed ozzy" (that's what we called it in High Park-was it a hospital? was it bombed?)
As you would expect on a One inch map that covers a large area including Southport, Liverpool and Wigan the streets aren't named. Apart from just one of the thousands shown & that is New Cut Lane, God knows why.

If you look again at the wonderful 1818 map of Lancs , you will find the village of South Port and the villages of North Meols , Marsh side and Church Town on Tile 5. Also there is the huge Martin Mear (dry in summer).
The 1829 shows North Meols , Marsh Side and Church Town on C4.

Thanks for pointing that out, it is indeed a wonderful map. I guess it must be my screen but I cannot get Churchtown to show. There seems to be some missing at the join between two sections. Nevertheless very interesting.
