Old Southport ShopI posted this on sgb, as I didnt realise how old it was. Someone on there has suggested 1930's?
Sure someone on here will have a better idea - might even know of the shop? I do suspect from the area of my family it will be close to Cemetary Road/Shakespeare St.
Any ideas?

Looking at the girls hair I agree could be 1930's.
Oh I would have loved to go in that shop .My Mum would have had me in there often.

It might be listed or have an advert in an old street directory.............that would help date when the shop was there and where

The only E Parkinson that came up in the old telephone books (between 1920-1940) was at 126 Eastbourne Road, Birkdale; now I've noticed the name over the door is Edmund Parkinson - any chance he's on the 1911 Census?

There are two on the 1911 census father and son.
PARKINSON EDMUND M 1867 44 Ormskirk Lancashire
PARKINSON EDMUND M 1898 13 Ormskirk Lancashire
Here they are in 1901. He is a hairdresser in St. James St.
Perhaps his son went on to have this shop.

Thanks Jane, i never thought of that.
Would make it one of Granddad's sisters then, who we know nothing about (other than were one of them is buried).
Will try explore that avenue further.
