Open Day

Hi all,

This is my first post so I hope it's in the right section.

I'm coming to the open day from down south and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good, reasonably cheap, hotel or B & B in the area for Saturday night.

I am related to the Leadbetter/Wilson and Ronson families via my mother and still have many relations in the Blackpool and Fleetwood areas. I hope to visit Banks and have a look round the local churchyards on Sunday so if anyone can give any tips or advice it would be most welcome and appreciated

Many thanks in advnce for yor help

Steve

Difficult one for a local. You might find Southport a bit busy too because there's an airshow on.

This site might help - http://www.laterooms.com/en/p1301...?gclid=CJWR-POqjZ0CFZQA4wodBG8J3A

But they are showing full on a lot of them If you had asked sooner I would have said to phone the tourist information office

Anyway hope you find somewhere and please say hello at Open Day.

Just found this site using Google - http://www.bookdirectrooms.com/ap...amp;Adults=2&Rating=Undefined

Try googling and try and find somewhere in Bath Street/Irving Street/Seabank Road;  all town centre but the No.49 bus from Lord Street will drop you off in Churchtown village.
I am free to meet up with you on Sunday and can show you some of the local graves - what a lovely hobby we have.
Tell me where and when to meet up?
Take care

Thanks for the replies - most helpful.
For Sunday it would probably be easiest to meet at St Cuthberts as I will know where that is
If you are going to the Open Day, I'll be there - the one with the London accent !

Meeting up

You'll probably be back home before you read this reply but I hope we do meet up at open day.

Jane Wilson's brother James is my great great grandfather. One of his daughters was Mattie Leadbetter Wilson (named after her uncle Matthew Leadbetter) and she married John Ronson. Mattie died on 1st Jan 1965 and is buried in Orpington Cemetary in Kent with her second husband Harry Berry (d 14th Nov 1961). Her first husband, John, was washed overboard from the Fleetwood trawler George Adgell in March 1930 off the north Irish coast. His body was never recovered. My mother was the youngest of 5 girls (Janie, Annie, Alice, Leah & Elsie) and 1 boy (John) and is the only survivor of the family - her maiden name was Elsie Wilson Ronson.
I think, therefore, that Jane Wilson was my mother's great aunt

Sorry to hear you won't be able to come Germaine. But you seem to have found a connection

Enjoy your day and one day we shall meet I'm sure
Germaine

Quite a close connection then Steve.
Thanks can I put that bit of info on my tree it is nice to be follow them up.
Yes that would be right. I have some photo's of Elizabeth and James Wilson if you want them.
Yes Jane I would have liked to have come but looking at trains and buses it would have been a 3 hour journey each way. would have had to set off so early and I need an hour or so before I can get going in a morning sould have had to be up so early.
Sat here now bored out of my head
Hopeful one day we shll meet up. I have managed it a couple of times on the bus but now I can't find the time table for that paticular bus from Blackpool not even the bus stop i went from everything has altered round there. Last time i came there was a caoch going from Fleetwood and it was ideal took our Joe and we had a nice day.

Sorry you couldn't get Germaine but I understand with that journey. They say to use public transport then make it as inconvenient as they can!

Steve did come and we had a chat. Hopefully he will make contact via the forum Germaine. He left to have a wonder around um er somewhere near Blackpool.......I can't remember the name of the place
Germaine

Yes exactly it takes so long to get anywhere. In fact I think when lookingat the timetable it looked as if the train from Preston to Southport was off and they had put a bus on. Now why should I pay train fare for a bus when I get a bus ride for nothing. Either way it takes as long.
Oh now I wonder were it was that he was interested in that  is near to Backpool
Hope you all had a lovely day.

I didn't get to talk to Steve so don't know if he wants to meet up at St Cuthbert's tomorrow    Maybe if he gets to read this he might just pm me?
mother

He told me he was staying overnight in Blackpool with an aunt and researching around Fleetwood Sunday
SeaCopRimmer

In his first post he asked where he could stay Saturday night and that he wanted to search Banks and local churches on Sunday?   Obviously changed his itinerary.
Jane

No where to stay in Southport. Everywhere is full because of the air show.
Germaine

could always pitch a tent on the beach
Serioulsy though hope he got somewherer to stay and enjoyed his time in Southport and  Fleetwood.

Sadly the beach is out of bounds for the weekend except for paying folk

He said he had an auntie near Fleetwood/Blackpool so would stay with her. Hey Germaine you could have got a lift home

Really hope he makes contact with you soon though which I'm sure he will
Germaine

Our prom was closed off this morning it was a triathlon or something . I didn't go down.
Hey now that would have been handy just to get to Blackpool would have made it easier to get home. Never mind.
Yes hope so I have quite a lot on that side of the family. Funny he should belong to one of the brothers I haven't traced.

My first "customer" of the day turned out to be a fourth cousin.

A great start.

Hooray

I'm glad I kept my beady eye open because I was able to catch Syd as he was leaving.  Very nice chap and now he's a member.

I didn't know you hadn't been introduced Seacop or I would have dragged him back for a visit.     :smt010

He was going to Singleton near Blackpool.  Shame not to have met up Germaine...so near yet so far.

Twas a lovely day...roll on next year!

Somebody who saw Open Day advertised on The Rimmer FHS website came along and turned out to be related to me - we have the same 3xG-Grandfather!    I also discovered the origin of Manx Jane's Lane

Is it a secret?
SeaCopRimmer
