Does anyone know where I can consult copies of old Preston newspapers?

I think that would be the Harris Library in Preston.

I thought they might but wanted to check. The person was from Southport and her mother & brothers still lived here so it may not have been in a Preston paper (the registration district for the death). She may have been brought back here for burial. So lots for me to look for and for myself for a change :grin:

I think the Gale database (see the "useful sites" thread) has some Preston newspapers. Quite a lot of North Meols news was reported there.

I can confirm that Gales has a Preston paper from 1800 to 1900, cant recall the title but I got lots of stuff about JW Scofield Southport's top cyclist from the 1890's.
