Richard Abram c1912 Banks

Received today a marriage cert for the above.
He was 26 on his marriage in 1938 an Engineering Fitter at an aeroplane factory of Chapel Lane Banks. (Not very aufait with Banks Abrams)
Father was Geoffrey Abram, fisherman.

As far as I can see there are two likely Geoffrey/Jeffrey's. one born c1881 and the other 1870.
Found a marriage in 1898 of a Jeffrey to an Ellen Abram, but that would mean the 1881 was only 17 when married, so I think possibly it may have been the c1870 one.

Can anyone confirm or deny these two Geoffrey's/Jeffrey's with a son Richard.

Richard died before 1953 when his wife remarried.
Jane

Can't help but some suggestions

1 - Have you looked to see who the witnesses were? Might be a possible brother/sister

2 - There might be siblings older than Richard - you could look for one of their births which might help with a mother's maiden name

3 - Finally have a search for his death and you might be lucky and find a funeral/death notice. They often tell you family names which might help
Yvonne

The trouble is Jane I am working backwards.
Found his wife's second marriage when I was trawling through marriages purely by accident.
His wife's grave was with her grandparents in St Cuthbert's under her second marriage name and we couldn't work who she was, so worked backwards to Richard, but know nothing at all about him except now, that his father was Geoffrey
Witnesses were her brother Harold and an Alice Bond. If Alice is Richard's sister then ?? when she married as no idea of how old she was. Know for sure that Harold did not marry an Alice, as sometimes I have found siblings and their fiancee were witnesses at the others marriages.
Don't fancy trawling through all deaths and marriages c1930-1953 at the moment hoping for a short cut!
Jane

The second wife's funeral report just might be in the paper...............it might help

And working backwards is the way to do family hsitory

Hello Yvonne

I think Richard's parents might be Jeffrey and Ellen Abram (nee Abram), Jeffrey was a Fisherman.  Here's their marriage -

From Certified Copy of an Entry of Marriage (sorry, I can't remember who sent me this one).

I had a look at the births for Richard Abram's round about 1912 (on the Civil Registration Birth Index) and there was a Richard Abram's birth registered Jan-Feb-Mar 1912, Volume 8b, Page 1607, and the mother's maiden name is given as Abram.

So far Jeffrey is my 2cousin 3 times removed and Ellen my 1st cousin 3 times removed.  I have a photo Jeffrey and Ellen's gravestone in Banks, but it wont let me attach it for some reason.
Yvonne

Thanks for that, I haven't had a chance to look at the 1911 Census yet (a bit too expensive).  Here's a transcription of Jeffrey & Ellen's gravestone, and that of Ellen's mother which also includes Jeffry & Ellen's daughter Ann.

By the way, did you mean Ruth was the daughter of Peter Howard and Margaret Ashman Tweed?  I have them having a daughter Ruth about 1885.
Yvonne

Sorry Steve, yes it was Peter Howard and Margaret. (have ammended)

The 1911 census I just looked up Jeffrey Abram 1870, found him and then put in Jeffrey Abram at the bottom bit on the advanced search and it brings up his family. It works if there is only one of the person with that name you are looking for, if you get my meaning. Doesn't cost anything. I am waiting until it comes a bit cheaper too.

NB  I believe that Benjamin Abram is Benjamin Johnson, son of Ann Johnson.
There is no sign of a Benjamin Abram of this age either in the Abram extracts
or the 1851 Census, so Benjamin (aka Barnaby) must have taken the surname when
Ann married John Abram, presumably shortly after the 1851 Census.  Benjamin
uses the surname Johnson in all other census forms, including the 1851.
Whether John Abram is actually Benjamin's father is unclear at this point.

Well just shows what little tibits you can find on the forum.
Thanks Baxter the info on the Leadbetters.
My 3xg Grandfather was Peter Leadbetter. I have looked for a while for my 3X Grandmothers grave I have his and his second wife's Janes but couldn't find where Mary was buried never thought he could have taken her back to Churchtown thought she must have been in an unmarked grave in Fleetwood somewhere.
Thanks again

Gosh looking at the death of Mary I always thought she died about 2 years after coming to Fleetwood 1842 making it 1844 but it says she died May 1846 and by Aug he remarried. I doubt he had kept her body in the cupboard for two years would he
Didn't mourn for very long did he.

Necessity

My g.grandfather remarried after a year but he had 4 young children.  He married a widow and they were together for 30years.  Maybe your rellie had a family to bring up...can't have been easy in those days!

Nice day here, what's it like there?

Dotty
Germaine

Yes he did Dotty had 6 eldest 16, youngest 2, but 3 months .
His second wife must have been either desperate or a very nice lady.
They went on to have 3 more.
No wonder there are so many Leadbetters in Fleetwood
Lovely day here think I might venture out into the garden for 10 mins.

Jane

You might find she was a neighbour, a family friend and had been helping while his wife was sick. I think there were lots of marriages of convenience happened.
Germaine

Could be or maybe an old friend of family.
Something to look at.
