Richard Blundell Master ShoemakerCan anyone help with information regarding this fellow?
I have him on 1851 census return living Cross Lane Halsall. He is a widower and has children Henry, Ellen, Richard and Ann living with him. I think he was born 1783 and I have found a baptism for 07/09/1783 which would seem to tie in but need help with confirming who he married.
Any help appreciated.

Is he a widow on the 1851 census?
Have you tried looking for the family in 1841? His wife hopefully would be with the family which would at least give you a first name.
Have you found any baptisms for the children? Again this would maybe give the mother's first name.
Then it is a question of searching the parish records for a possible marriage. With his full name & her Christian name you stand a better chance of identifying the right couple.

I suspect you'll have to look through the Parish Registers! Take the age of the eldest child and look three months before the birth and work backwords - could be a long job, but well worth it if you find it. Good hunting

I have checked 1841 and again he is a widower.
I shall do as you suggest and see if I can find baptisms of children.
