Robert Abram (b 1847)Anybody got any information on Robert Abram please. In the 71 census he's married to an Ann (b 1849) with a daughter Sarah (b 1869) and living in Hoole Lane Banks.
I cant find any trace of any of them in any later England censuses (81 thru 01)

Thanks for that I've edited the post and included Banks in the message

In 1871 they also have a son - Joseph, aged 8 months
I can't spot them in 1881. What about earlier? Or their marriage?
this could be the marriage - December quarter 1868 Ormskirk 8b 1011
To Ann Tomlinson

Robert Abram (b 1847)In 61 he's at home with family Head Robrt Abram & Ann(probably a Leadbetter).
I 've seen the marriage and it feels iffy. The only Ann Tomlinson of about the right age I can find is from Oswaldtwistle. My wife Ida Crabtree remembers the old Ribble bus No 298 but that didn't run in 1860 !!!!!!!!!!!!

TaI am an ignoramus Keith. There will be loads of members saying how can I not know where Hoole Lane is...in fact I think it's where the old bank is and the old school.
Never mind, it's probably time for my tea....

I spotted her in 1861. There's also another born and living in Birkdale. Parents Jonathan & Jane
As you know who Robert's parents are maybe you will have to send for the marriage certificate - that way you would know if it is your Robert & Ann.

Robert Abram (b 1847)Thanks but....................
Even if we had the certificate I still wonder where they got to in 81 thru 01. Can they just disappear? One of them perhaps but a whole family? In other research husbands or wifes died at early ages but not all the family within a census period of 10 years.

Maybe they went to America to seek their fortunes..........

AbramI have found a Joseph Abram on the 1881 census.
Aged 10 living as a nephew at Brook Farm in Tithebarn Road, Southport with Samuel (head) and Jane Wright. He was born in North Meols.
This could be the son of Robert and Ann.
I'll keep looking. Bez could be right they could well have got religion and swanned off to USA or sadly have died or anything....

Robert Abram (b 1847)Bingo !!!!!!!!
Thanks to the emigration nudge I found our Robert on a Rootsweb tree {database "malcolmr"}as an immigrant to Canada. I dont know yet whether to accept it since some of the other Abram data is in conflict with what we know but it is another step.

Glad to help. Re the conflicting data - I have come across this before and it's usually because family stories get distorted over time. People have imperfect memories, or maybe (like my grandmother) just alter things, thinking no one will know any different.
You may now find relatives over there to correspond with - happy hunting.

Tempus fugitWow a lot can happen in an hour...
I hope you have found the right Robert for you, Keith.
I found Joseph Abram aged 20 employed at a farm in Scarisbrick with Samuel and Jane Wright. If he is the child of Robert and Ann he could be still there as his parents had died.
Maybe you could check the death index after 1871.
Well, I'll leave you to it now, let us know where you end up with your search,

Robert Abram 1847Thanks for the help.
Robert Abram did indeed emigrate to Ontario after 1871 and died in Alberta. In addition to the three children born in North Meols he and his wife had a further seven born in.........wait for it.............. Banks. That one though is near Collingwood Twp, Grey County, Ontario
We are currently in a dialogue over the identity of his wife, an Ann Tomlinson born in North Meols.
If anyone's interested I'll update this topic when we have reached agreement with the Canadian who identified the Robert for us.

Robert Abram b 1847All, well most, resolved.
Robert Abram married Ann Tomlinson 30th November 1867. Ann (1850) is the daughter of William Howard (1829) and Sarah Tomlinson (1830). Their marriage was after the birth of this daughter. Sarah is the daughter of Thos Tomlinson (1811) and Alice Rimmer (1816) married 23 July 1828 at Churchtown.
