Robert Wright, Southport Butcher 1870sHi, I am trying to find out some more information about Robert Wright, Butcher in the Southport area in the 1870s. He committed suicide around 23rd June 1875, 3 months after his daughter Mary Spencer Wright was born in March 1875. His Death and her birth are both registered in North Meols and I have copies of the certificates. I am wondering whether she (Mary) was perhaps not his child?
Mary Spencer Wright was my 2 x Great Grandmother.
I live in Scotland so am finding it hard to access any of the English Records but I am trying.
I cannot find a marriage record for Robert Wright and Margaret (formerly Lyons) as listed on Mary's birth certificate - going through the normal search engines.
I also wondered whether a Southport local paper would have reported on a Coroner's inquest for a suicide in 1875 ?
I have no further family information about Robert Wright as his Death Certificate has no parental information (Scottish Death Certificates have this info)
Any help of pointers in the right direction much appreciated.

Lancashire BMDs have a marriage taking place between Robert Wright and Margaret Lyons in 1874 at St John's, Liverpool. The GRO reference is as follows -
Jan-Feb-Mar 1874 Liverpool Registration District, Volume 8b, Page 82
I hope this helps

Southport papers do report these kind of things - but it might be a little too early.
I offer to do some free research but only for society members.
I'd never thought of people in Scotland having problems with English records because they are available on the Internet - FreeBMD for example. I have had many people ask me about Scottish research and apart from ScotsPeople which I know is a pay to view site there are none
Maybe you know differently?
Oh and as you may have gathered there were many Wright families in North Meols...one of those local names

Hello to another Wright .
This looks like Robert in 1871.
Looks intertesting.
I should imagine when you go into it further the name Spencer will turn up as someone in the families surname.

Thanks all for your help - you have certainly given me some more leads to follow up.
re. accessing English BMD records I have just been getting a bit tied in knots with all the indexes, on Scotland's People it seems easier because you get to view the actual certificate / census return etc. which then makes it simpler to check whether you have the correct person or not!!
Everyone else on all sides of both families going back forever are Scottish so
I've left this line till last!
Will send off for these certificates and see where I get to.
Thanks again and will think of joining the Society.

That is the trouble with the English certs you ahve to buy before you know whether you have the right one and it is the waiting! but it is fun
Do join the socoity if you can it isn't expensive and the mag is great .

I have them on the 1891 census in Kircudbrightshire, Scotland so my appetite is now whetted as to how they got there!
