SCARISBRICK ROAD INFIRMARYHello
Can anyone tell me if there are any old records available for the Infirmary in Scarisbrick Road for 1918?
Many thanks.

Welcome to our forum
I have never come across any hospital records. As far as I'm aware after so many years they are destroyed - I imagine because there is no space to keep them
You could try searching using A2A

Hospital recordsI knew a lady who was a midwife and she came across old files when she worked in Liverpool. Now that was a long time ago but maybe Bez might be able to throw some light on this question...
Maybe we'll see her tonight and ask her to respond...

Nowadays hospital records seem to be destroyed after 3 years - certainly 3 years after someone has died.
Seeing that everytime I have to go to the DGH for something new I seem to have new notes, I suspect they don't keep them very long. At SGI (Southport General Infirmary) in Scarisbrick New Road, 40 years ago, they did seem to keep them for longer because I used to have to go down to the Records Office for old case notes if a patient had been in on a previous occasion. Now they just give you new notes and a new number. I have recently been attending 2 departments and have 2 different numbers.
I have no idea if there are any very old records in a central location or not, but I suspect not as they often contain very "sensitive" information which you might not necessarily expect to find in medical notes.

Hospital RecordsI don't know if the hospital you are interested in is on the following site, but it has proved quite helpful to me.
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords
It gives you a bit of info on some of the hospitals history, such as it was a workhouse, then changed to an infirmary and then became NHS and then closed, and I think it also tells you if there are any existing records and where they are.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the link Degan. As a former client I looked at Christina Hartley Maternity Hospital and I see that Lancs, Records Office has admission/discharge records for the period of my stay(1944) which is pretty amazing.
