Sefton/HodsonCould anyone find a marriage for Teresa Sefton to William Hodson probably around 1887 in Birkdale. It would probably be in the Roman Catholic Church. I have found what I think is Teresa on the 1891 Census but the marriage records for Southport are not on Free BMD.

I moved this so it appeared under the correct letter.
A couple of points
I think you are confused about FreeBMD. These are taken from the GRO indexes by volunteers. Most years for marriages are done but if you look on their pages you can find out which years have been transcribed.
I had a quick look at the 1891 census for a Teresa Hodson and there is only one but she is living in Preston with her parents.
The only way to find the marriage is to check the GRO indexes. From your location maybe Crosby or Liverpool library would be the best places for you to go. They have the fiche for births, deaths & marriages.

Sorry about putting this in the wrong place, I was thinking of the Hodson name. I know that I can get the marriage from the fiches, in fact I have Ancestry UK and I can check this. However I just hoped that someone on this site might already have the information. I presume that the marriage would have been at St. Joseph's RC church in Birkdale as I have found other family marriages there but am not able to get to Southport library at present to check. I will check the indexes on Ancestry and then I should have a date, I also found this Teresa Hodson on the census for 1891 as you state.

If you put a little more information on here I may get the chance to check the register at Preston.
When were either of them born for example? Have you got them on the 1881 census? Do you have any children for them - birth years? Anything you may think of that would help.
I think she is on the 1881 - aged 14 at home with Step parents
1891 - I can't find her under Sephton/Sefton or Hodson.
There are no marriages for Teresa Sefton or Sephton on Freebmd either.
So I wonder if she actually married or where she disappeared to?

Hi
I have now found Teresa Hodson (nee Sefton) born 1867 in Tarbock, Lancs on the 1901 Census at 124 Linaker Street, Southport.
Husband William H Hodson born abt 1862 in Southport.
Children Frederick H, age 13, Jane, 10, Wm H, 6, Arthur, 4, Jane Hodson Mother aged 64 born Wigan. I also found them on the 1891 but Teresa was transcribed as Foresa. Also on this census were Ellen Forshaw age 22 and Margaret Forshaw age 16 as boarders. These were step sisters of Teresa. I am still looking for the marriage of Teresa and William and assume it would be in St Joseph's Birkdale. I must try to get to Southport library to get this information.
Thanks for all your responses

I have traced the Hodson tree back to the 1780s in Tarleton if you'd like any further information.

This is a complicated family, all these stepchildren
Am I right in saying that Robert married Mary Sephton in 1867
she died and then he married Margaret Sumner 1878
Still cannot find Teresa's marriage though
Found a Theresa Hodson marrying in 1890
There is also a Thomas Hodson there too

Hi Yvonne
Yes, Robert Forshaw did marry Mary Sefton in 1867 and then after her death married again in 1879 to Margaret Aspinwall. Mary Sefton (nee Croft) was a widow with 7 children when she married her cousin Robert.
Margaret Aspinwall was also a widow when she married Robert and had two Sumner children and another illegimate son.
That is where all the step children come from.
The Teresa Hodson that you found I don't think can be related. Teresa Sefton married in 1887 to William Henry Hodson and died in 1917 and I don't think they had a daughter Teresa. They appear to have stayed in Southport so Wigan would not be correct.
Thanks for your interest.
