Silas Lloyd

Hi im looking for any information on Silas Lloyd who was born in Southport and killed in action during WW1

Also...

Im looking for a Samuel Lloyd who was also born in Southport and killed in action during WW1. I know Samuel was a Southport resident but apart from that i know very little on the 2 men.

The CWGC shows that Samuel Lloyd, aged 23, was the son of Jane Lloyd of 7 Market Street, Southport, and the late Samuel Lloyd.
Can't see an entry for Silas on the CWGC?

I'm always puzzled why Ancestry thinks so many died in Aldershot; it seems to be wrong about Silas as well

According to "Splendid Hearts":

Samuel Lloyd kia Balkans 18/9/1918, commemorated Doiran Memorial, Greece. Son of Jane Lloyd & late Samuel Lloyd

Silas Lloyd (from Visiter 20 Apr 1918, In Memoriam):

"In loving memory of my dear husband, Sergt. Silas lloyd, 12th Manchester Regiment, who died of wounds in France April 17th 1917.

Oft I think of you dear husband
And my heart is sad with pain.
Oh this world would be heaven
Could I hear your voice again.
Just twelve months ago you left me,
How I miss your loving face.
But you left me to remember
That some day we meet again.

From his loving wife and little son, Silas, 19 Sandon Road, Birkdale"

Another dedication from his mother and father stated Sergeant Lloyd was 24 years old.

"When we last saw his smiling face he looked so strong and brave. I little thought how soon he'd be laid in a hero's grave."

Yvonne - I didn't know he was a sergeant nor his regiment so wouldn't put a post here unless I was sure?

BrianG - Aldershot is stated as the theatre of war because (according to my beloved) that is where they would have done their basic training so would be their embarkation point?   But I am only quoting what I've been told by 'him who knows'

aldershot was the theatre not the place of death......each portion of the battle was given a name [the theatre]

I've had a scout round and apparently the Ancestry database is completely $£"^&**^ as regards "theatre" This from another forum:

Also, less obviously wrong, in most (if not all) cases the Residence and Enlistment places are the wrong way round.

I knew I had heard these names before.

Whilst searching through the war volumes in the library for any Lloyds I might recognise I came across these names.  I havent noted wether or not there was a picture in the volumes. But both 'Samuel Lloyd' 13821 Private, son of Jane and Samuel Market Street, Commemorated at Dorian Memorial Greece..

.. and Lloyd Silas 49189 Sergant, killed 17.04.1917, wife and son Silas of Sandon Road, (Southport Visiter 20-4-1918)... got a mention in there.

Have just worked Silas into my tree as a 7th cousin 2x removed

Silas was son of Peter Lloyd of Birkdale & Elizabeth Ellen Guy. He married Priscilla Dewhurst in 1916, son Silas' birth was registered Q2 1917. Silas senior was killed April 1917.

Brian how many children did Peter and Elizabeth have? I have them with 4 children but no Silas?

Always possible I have got the Peter Lloyds mixed up, but I have:

John (c1880), Elizabeth (c1883), Joseph (c1885), Selina (c1888), Silas (c1893), Benjamin (c1896)

all together with parents living in Halsall in 1901. They seem to have moved there sometime after 1896.

What do you think? Have I taken a wrong turn somewhere?

The only Priscilla Dewhurst that comes up on Free BMD doing a 'all counties' is in March 1891 Sheffield , but cannot get her on 1911 census under Priscilla Dewhurst.
