Sumner/Barton/Drummond

My mum, and indeed later my cousin lead me to believe, my
G-Grandmother was one,
Annie O'Neil b1856 in Ireland,

But on all the census it has Annie being born in scarisbrick.
So, I started looking for her marriage so as to send for a certificate, I
could not find a marriage for James Drummond-m-Annie O'Neil,

so decided to send for my G-Dads birth cert instead,
and guess what Annie O'Neil was not my G-Grandmother.
A lady called Annie Barton is stated as mother,

I am now wondering why my mum let us believe that  O'Neil was her Grandmothers maiden name.

Next step, Found the marriage, and sent for the certificate.

James Drummond - married - Alice Barton
at Christ church southport on the 26/4/1871, aged 20
she lived in Grove st, her father was Richard Barton he was a Gardener

I have done a bit more research, sent for birth cert and her mum was
Ann Barton Nee Sumner the only address is scarisbrick.

Having looked at the Barton And Sumner name's on here, I dont seem to be able to connect up with anyone.

If any of this is relevant to anyone on NMFHS I can e-mail you copy's if the certificates.

Yvonne,
Thank you for all the info, You have no Alice but you do have a

Ann Barton born on the exact date 20/1/1851 as my Alice/Annie Barton
I think this may be one and the same person.
and their was a mistake made in the christian name on that one cert

Because on her marriage certificate she is called Alice Barton,
But on the birth certificate of my Grandfather she is called annie
and on all the census's she is named a annie.

I am sure it is the same person because when I ordered her Birth cert
I asked that they made sure that the named father was a Richard Barton
they told me although their was more than 4 possibles they found only one with fathers name as Richard. What do you think?

Yvonne

Well I think it must be the same. Cannot see any other Richard Barton - Gardener around. It does say Ann was 2mths old 1851 census which was 30th March and as you had them look for Richard as father I think it is the same person.

On one of the census I have I have put a note that Jane 1855 was in fact Elizabeth Jane, but cannot remember where I got that from

Wonder whether this was a relation and they called her Ann to stop the confusion

Hiya Yvonne,
On Alice/Annie's marriage cert,  Richard her dad is down as a gardener,
but on her birth cert he is down as a Farmer,

I have some info somewhere, which I have been trying to find but cant,
that shows the family as farm lab in Chorley and other places
and also gardening  all different years.

If it is the same family as yours that means we maybe related, but how though?
    Best regards

Yvonne

The relationship is only very distant, so I don't suppose there is a 'word' for it
Alice/Ann's sister, Mary married my 2xgt granduncle so it is only through that marriage there is a connection.

I say...

I see that there is a FEARN granddaughter on one of the census.  This could be a link to our very own Lord Ronnie Fearn former MP of Southport.

What do you think?
