Walker Webstaff - Botanic Gardens 1883On Fri 9 Oct 1987 there appeared in the Southport Visiter an article by Barbara Taylor entitled "Botanic Gardens - giving pleasure for generations"
Part of the article reads:
By 1883 a local directory was proudly proclaiming that the gardens were "...now in a handsome and delightful state of completion"
At that time W. Wagstaff was the "sole purveyor of the Botanic Gardens" providing beakfasts, dinners, teas and other refreshments.
Walker Wagstaffe was my great great grandfather and I want to find out which local directory of 1883 is referred to in the article. Someone looked at various 1880's directories in Southport library for me. These were all Slaters Directories but none includes the statement that in 1883 W. Wagstaff was the "sole purveyor of the Botanic Gardens" which I wish to validate.
Were there any local directories other than Slaters covering Southport in 1883? Is it possible to find out what directory Barbara Taylor was referring to?
I will be grateful for any help you are able to give me
