The question is: Who was the wife of Robert Gregson, b 1796, son of Thomas Gregson & Jane Abram, Elizabeth Wareing or Margaret (Peggy) Wareing?
The NMFHS One Name Extract from the Parish Registers shows the marriage of Robert Gregson and Elizabeth Wareing on Dec 24 1821. Then starting in 1822 there are the baptisms of seven children to Robert & Margaret Gregson. The 1841 census shows Robert & Margaret and 5 of their children.
Searching Joyce Otterstrom’s database I found she has come across the same problem and has posted the following comment:
Quote Original records need to be checked. There is only one possibility of a Robert Gregson getting married. Right after he marries Elizabeth Wareing a Robert and Margaret begin having children I believe the transcripts are in error and the wife should read Peggy or Margaret. JLCO. Unquote
Joyce Otterstrom cites The Parish Registers of North Meols 1732-1812. Transcribed by FH Cheetham, 1934 & The Registers of Euxton and North Meols 1813-1837, transcribed by Baxter & Burgess, 1990, as her sources, as well as the 1841 census.
Does anyone know if the original records have been checked or have any comments or answers to the above?

Just looked in the Abram ONExtract and there is no Gregson/Abram marriage round 1820-25 and I don't have the other names to cross check any marriages or births.

By the way did you check the Abram extract or did you mean the Wareing?

It was the Abram ONE I checked; incidentally, Southport Reference Library have all the NMFHS ONE's for viewing.

SeaCop, Not sure why you were checking Abram ONE. Maybe I should clarify my query. Robert Gregson, b1796, was the son of Thomas & Jane Abram who were married on Dec 2 1788 (Gregson ONE). The question is who did Robert marry on Dec 24 1821: Elizabeth Wareing or Margaret (Peggy) Wareing.

Aahh - you said Thomas and Jane Abram - not Thomas Gregson who married Jane Abram It doesn't take a lot to confuse me these days, but I'll still have a look for you - under Gregson :grin:

Hi bobg and Seacop, just checked ONE for Wareing and Gregson.
Gregson ONE shows Robert Gregson marrying Elizabeth Wareing on December 24th 1821. The Wareing ONE does not show any marriages for that date.
I think the original registers need to be checked to solve this.
I recall coming across this before but have not had time to check it out myself.

Checked the Parish Register today and got a copy for you from the fiche; it quite clearly shows that
Robert Gregson of this Parish and Elizabeth Wareing of this Parish were married in this ----------- by Banns, with Consent of ------------- this twenty fourth Day of December in the Year One thousand eight hundred and twenty one By me Joseph Docker
This Marriage was solemnized between us Robert Gregson/Elizabeth Wareing (her mark) in the Presence of John blundell and John Gregson
The baptism of a child in February 1822 clearly shows
Robert and Margaret Gregson, Crossens, Cordwainer
So whilst this shows clearly the two different names it doesn't end the confusion - sorry

Many thanks SeaCop for going to Preston particularly when you were not feeling 100%. Although it does not completely resolve the problem it is good to have confirmation of the parish record.
I am going to look into the possibility of her being Elizabeth Margaret, and for some reason only used Margaret after her marriage.
