william howard b abt 1811

We're trying to track the William Howard shown in the 41 census age 30 with wife Betty and children Nanny and Elizabeth. We can find no trace of the family in the 51 census.

In 51 census there is a William Howard age 40 with wife Frances and children Daniel, John [born Sharples and baptised 31 Dec 1843], Nanny and William. We have a marriage cert for William Howard and Fanny [Frances] Sharples 23 Apr 1949 at St Johns Crossens but William declares himself as Bachelor. So unlikely to be the family we're looking for.

In some marriage extracts from St John Crossens there is another William Howard (of full age) widower and an Ann Watkinson married 12 August 1846. So the real question... where are these two in the 51 Census? Any ideas?

Good hunting

Hi Keith

I'm sure someone will be along soon to answer your question or to point you in the right direction at least.

Alas, I am not that person...

Good luck!

I can't find them 1851 or 1861 either. I even tried just Howards but like you say only the one couple William & Frances

I did only look in Lancashire though

Have you found the children in 1851? That could give you a clue.

Could it be...

Is it too late for the workhouse?

william Howard

The children in the 51 census are all with the William age 40 and Frances.

I can find no trace of the 41 children... Betty, Nanny or Elizabeth. Since they are all female the've probably got married and quite reasonably changed their names
