You might be on the right track Dotty... But if that's the case and the nickname relates to the flour he mills, don't you think it's more likely that he was a pumpernickel specialist???

Mmmm...I shall have to give this latest theory some thought before voicing my opinion. My old boss used to say "Far better to be thought a fool than open one's mouth and remove all doubt"!
