I think it could be the wide white (or light) cuffs on the sleeves that make us think policeman
the single stripe high on the right arm will be his rank.
It doesn't look like an outdoor uniform to me, which I think would almost certainly have headgear of some sort
Yes it was the cuffs which made me think police. Maybe he was not a "beat-bobby" but worked in the police station
I have a letter, or at least a scap of paper found with late Granddads belongings and all these photos. The letter is a referance for a soldier who was a piper in the Seaforth Highlanders for 14 years, we have no idea who this was and there is no date.
no sorry im afraid not my uncle was in the hibernian military school from abt 1910 and then was in the east lancs.when i saw you photo it just reminded me of his uniform so i thought it might e a possibility.roam

Speaking from personal knowledge I know that folk only keep what's important to them. So if your grandad saved this piece of paper then it was for a reason. Was it a personal letter or official? Maybe there is a clue in there somewhere.
I'm sure somewhere there will be someone who will be able to idenify band uniforms.
Good hunting.

Its just a piece of paper taken from a notebook, written in red ink with Seaforth Highlanders stamp on. No idea of date or whom it refers to. From the old photo's I have seen of the Seaforth Highlanders we have no match in the photo's we have.
The name on the reference letter is referring to a 'Lloyd' but cannot make out the initial. Until recently we did not know any of the immediate Lloyds f that generation served in the forces at all, was never spoken of.
sure is a hunt Dotty, sure I will solve the mystery one day.

This is only a suggestion but you could bring it along to a meeting and see what someone else makes of the initial. Some of our members have worked with doctors and you know what terrible writing they have!
I like a bit of a mystery myself...
