13.06.1888; Mary Elizabeth Rimmer; 26 years; Dawber Street
05.03.1891; Elizabeth Rimmer; 65 years; 2 Dawber Street
02.11.1893; Nathan Rimmer; 70 years; 2 Dawber Street
Bear in mind that Nathan's wife on the 1891 Census could have been Elizabeth (Eliza for short)!

Hi,Can anyone please help? I am trying to find any information on a Nathan Rimmer .I have little or no information about him , only that he served with the south lancashire regiment in the first world war.He died 26/10/1918 in France/Belgium.He was my father-in-law's grandfather.
Any information would be gratefully received

I'm also researching this Nathan Rimmer, who was born in Southport and subsequently moved to Leigh. I have a lot of information on descendants and on related lines. I would very much like to know who his parents were. Checks on Ancestry are frustrating because there is more than one Nathan who fits the bill and who was born around the same time in the same area.
Any help much appreciated and I'll be pleased to share what information I have.
Marymar,
Was Nathan definitely born in Southport??
Another family with a Nathan living in Wigan in 1901
Robert Rimmer 45
Elizlett Rimmer 46
Emily Rimmer 23
Ellen Ann Rimmer 21
Mary E Rimmer 17
Nathan Rimmer 15 born Wigan
RG13; Piece: 3557; Folio: 61; Page: 28.
The father, Robert, could possibly be the son of Nathan and Elizabeth nee Howard, (as previously mentioned). Dates fit with what I know of his approx birth date.

That's how I have this family recorded. Did quite a bit of "census-chasing" on this lot recently; this was following up another thread subject Samuel Jackson who married an Alice Rimmer, Nathan's brother. They are both children of of Robert Rymer (c1791) and Margaret Barton (c1793). Nathan & Elizabeth upped sticks to Wigan to work on the railways

Appreciate the amount of work here, Unsworth, but unless we have an approximate age for Bigalb's Nathan Rimmer then we're all working in the dark! It's not likely that anybody born before c.1870 would have been a soldier in the Great War
Where are you Bigalb - we need some answers :?:
The Nathan Rimmer that Bigalb and I are independently searching for was born c 1878 in North Meols, Southport. He married Alice Prescott at St Stephen's Church, Banks, on 4 Sept 1907. Their children included Mary Ellen Rimmer, b Leigh, c 1908, who married Arthur Gilman. I'm aware that buying a certificate is very likely to solve the problem of distinguishing this Nathan Rimmer from the others who were in Southport around the same time, but am working to a limited budget on behalf of someone else so I'm hoping that out there someone may be able to identify the Nathan I'm searching for without having to buy a certificate. This one was a member of the Prince of Wales Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment) Battalion: 1/5th Battalion. His Number was 15936 and he was killed in action in Belgium on 26 Oct 1918.
I have a subscription to Ancestry so can check census returns but have been stymied so far by the Rimmer of the same name (all, perhaps, related to one another!).
Any help or advice would be much appreciated, both by me and by the person I am trying to help. (You all seem such a helpful lot on the Forum that I feel there must be someone out there who can advise!)

Brian, do you mean Alice, Nathan's sister.
Joyce O has her marrying Thomas Cadwell 25 Nov 1834
Hi Yvonne
Yes Alice Rimmer sister of Nathan. While I was researching Alice & Nathan it became clear from censuses that this Alice could not be the one who married Thomas Cadwell, but did indeed marry Samuel Jackson. I had a long email correspondence with Joyce and she agrees. She also confirmed it by checking the Wigan All Saints PRs where it says Alice is d of Robert Rimmer. Joyce has upfated her own database; I'm sure "Park" will be updated in due course!.
After the musical chairs had stopped Thomas Cadwell has ended up (pro tem at least) with Alice Rimmer 29 Jan 1815, d of Richard Rymer & Alice Halsall
This all ties in with the "Rimmer/Rymer" thread; in fact it was Sheila who first indicated that the Alice's were with the wrong husbands.
I've had a few instances recently where new information has led to a re-evaluation of data in Park ; most notably an Ellen Blundell moved within the space of an afternoon from "not related" to "7th cousin" to "1st cousin" Joyce is always pleased to get new information!

[quote="BrianG"][quote="Yvonne"]slyMarymar,
"Was Nathan definitely born in Southport??

I'm told by Nathan's grandson that his grandfather was born in Southport, and he confirms that the medal record for 15936, killed in action in Belgium in 1918, is his grandfather. He also says that his father was over 40 when he died, which means, if correct, that the Nathan born in Wigan must be a different person.
Thanks a lot to Yvonne and Brian for your efforts on our behalf. The mystery deepens!
