If this is Donny Dorey then as far as I am aware he only had one sister - Norah! However, he had several female cousins (some of whom lived next door at No.4 for a while) and who would be about the same age as he!

the houses in the background were #4 and #6 william and ellens houses....the little girl apparently lived across the rd at either 1,3 or 5 nan told me thats where she lived I thought it was margaret at first but nan said no Ellen wouldn't allow her girls to play with boys and norah was too old...so now I am trying to figure out who lived in the houses across the way

The lower house numbers begin near the junction with Marshside Road. I don't think they look like Lytham Road. My friend lived at No.13 and mother-in-law at No. 33 and their houses didn't have bay windows, they had flat elevations.
Also there appears to be a house peeping at the left of the picture. It could be explained if it was printed back to front. What does anyone else think?

Well spotted Doty - if it was printed as a mirror image then it could be No.2, but if it's the right way round then it can't be No.2 - must have a look when next down that way?

# 2 was the house on the corner of Lytham and Marshside 4 & 6 aare semi's #2 was turned into a Butchers by the people who bought it from William in 1959 and # 1 was a grocery store owned by a cousin of my dads, can't remember who, they lived up stairs and had an addition built on the back as the kids grew. old Mary rimmer lived at #49 across from us at #50. Susan Rimmer lived in the first house past the stores, her sister was run down by a bus in the mid 70's
My (older) brother and myself had a good look down there this morning and we both believe that these houses are not in Lytham Road!
The shops on the corner of Marshside Road and Lytham Road are both in Marshside Road - the butcher was Mr Emmett and the grocer was Tommy Ball (before Bob took over).
The first houses on the right-hand side of Lytham Road as you turn in from Marshside Road, are a pair of semi's (Nos 2 and 4); No 2 has a bay but No 4 does not (as with the next three pairs of houses); the design over the 'main' bedroom is similar to that on Nos 2 and 4 but each pair of houses has a different design (some triangular, some round and some shield-shaped); John and I came to the conclusion that they are more like the houses further down on the left-hand side (odd-numbered) but on investigation they had bays on both floors unlike the single storey bays in the photograph and I couldn't see any with a similar 'triangular design.
So the conclusion we came to is that the children were possibly visiting friends/relations elsewhere, possibly Shellfield Road - but my kerb-crawl down there didn't come up with anything that struck me as similar!

I remember the butcher's shop as well - my friend and I once bought 2 sheep's eyeballs there on our way home from school and disected them on her mother's back kitchen table. That's when I discovered that eyeballs are not only very tough, but they can also bounce.

So, it would seem that the advice I received on my first visit to a Society monthly meeting is true...
We should always write on the back of a photo (in pencil) who or what is depicted, where and when and what occasion. No good to us for the old ones we have but a good idea so our decendants wont have to ponder like we are now.
