I remembered when I was in there the other day to check what they had

Southport Guardian - 1883-1959

Southport Journal - 1949-1964

Southport News - 1881-1899

Southport Independent - 1861-1866

Southport News & Birkdale Chronicle - 1874-1875

Southport Daily News - 1875-1877

Liverpool & Southport Daily News - 1878-1881

And of course the Southport Visiter - 1844-2005

Are any of the newspapers available on-line or plans to put them on-line?

Oh I have never looked for things like that. How much do they sell for?

Then again what format are they on? No use if like the library on microfilm. Who has their own film reader Confused

I'm lucky that I can get into the local library and see them for free. But it does cost 50 pence per print out

Edit - Just been for a look on Ebay. There are a few for sale. An example -

90FT MICROFILM REEL SOUTHPORT NEWSPAPERS 1914 JAN-MARCH
Starting prioce £4.99 plus £2.50 P&P but only to certain areas!

I very much doubt people would buy them - as I say who has their own film reader! Watch people come and say oh we do Very Happy

She is selling lots of odd and funny things - a photo and details of a soldier. I wonder how she got them!

The link - hope it works

interesting though how they were oridinay got. just on general sale at the

libary, so how many more thing are put on general sale to do with

different parts of the counties. that could be used to get the information,

to maybe find a missing link in your own family tree.

I no these are 1914 but she has been selling

1850 onwards, I my

self do not have a reader, but will keep watching anyway.

So she bought them from which library?

Any of the society's members can get free access to old newspapers - by myself who will always look something up for them as long as it isn't a whole year Very Happy

Glad we helped Cazza.

If you ask in the reference library they will show you where the films are and get the one you want onto a machine for you.

They are wonderful for finding funeral reports - mostly during the 20th century.

The good news is that there are no films missing from the reference library - these are copies which  (according to Mathew) were produced for other organisations.  They say Southport Library on them because the library initiated the filming.
