My great grandmother is causing me some concern and I want to sort her out. I'm happy with her detals from her marriage to her death, but I'm not convinced I have the correct birth cert.
I'm posting a message on a Welsh forum for hints on checking that end, but I was wondering if anyone knew of her through her sons.
The salient points are
Married 8th Jan 1883 St Pauls Birkdale
Groom - John Rimmer - widower - 31 - labourer - Alma Rd - s/o William
Bride Annie Humphreys - spinster - 25 - 12 Duke St - d/o Richard a quarryman
Witnesses James Twist and Eliza Neale - Annie did not sign her name
16 Oct 1883 daughter Alice Teresa born 87 Kew Rd (my grandmother)
1885c son William born
27 April 1888 daughter Agnes born Boundary Rd
15 June 1889 Agnes dies and father John buys Plot 178 Section 2 Duke St Cemetery for her burial
10 April 1890 son John Richard born 33 Boundary Rd
1891 census - 101 Milton St
John (41), Annie (35 born Wales), Alice T (7), William (5), John R (11 mth)
8 July 1895 son Ernest born 33 Boundary Rd
1901 census - 33 Boundary Rd
John (49), Annie (43 born Wales),Alice (17),William (15),John (11), Ernest (5)
21 Feb 1902 - husband John dies and is buried with baby Agnes
14 Oct 1911 daughter Alice marries in Barrow in Baptist Chapel
15 Nov 1918 son Ernest killed and CWGC site confirms that his mother Annie was also living in Barrow
Annie appeared in various Barrow Directories until the thirties, but I did know she went back to Southport
17 Feb 1937 Annie died at 74 Wigan Rd Ormskirk (was this the hosptial?)
The death cert says she was 75, widow of John of 32 Shaftesbury Ave Southport. The informant was M Rimmer of the same address and the registrar kindly noted she was the daughter-in-law.
Annie was buried in the same plot with her husband and daughter. Also in the plot -, Ann & William Cropper  (the same M Rimmer was the informant on Ann Cropper's death cert and was Ann's daughter), Annie Rimmer (born and died 1899 the daughter of John William and Ann Ellen Rimmer (nee Athy) of 149 Kew Rd) and Bertha England (died 1900 aged 3 months or years). I don't know how the babies were connected with John and Annie Rimmer.
According to the information collected Annie was born between 1856 and 1862 somewhere in Wales.
Having looked at the name variants for those years on the 1881 census  there were 27 still in Wales and 8 in various parts of England. Only one was in Southport, at 43 Portland St working as a servant. That says she was born in Bala in 1856. Needless to say we have not found a birth to match.
I have not yet found a marriage between M Cropper and either William or John Rimmer, but I wonder if anyone recognises anything. Until I am 100% certain I have Annies birth details I can't look into the Welsh branch of my tree.
