This query has been sent to me via email.
"I am enquiring if your Society might be able to provide me with any information regarding a John Wylie Grant, who was born around 1891. I believe he may have been born in Southport, although records show that for some reason his birth was not registered until 1929, and then in London.
Grant played football in Sweden in 1907. He then returned home and played for Southport Central FC for two seasons from 1909-1911. Following this he spent a season with Woolwich Arsenal before moving overseas once more where he plied his trade with Genoa Cricket and Football Club in Italy for 3 seasons, from 1912-1915. He was a prolific goal scorer for the Genoa team and helped them to win the Italian Championship title in 1915.
I would be very grateful for any assistance whatsoever you might be able to offer.
Regards and thank you for your time,
Paul Edgerton"

Seacop & myself were in the library today. The book she mentions is for players from 1921 - I think this may have been when the club became Southport FC rather than Southport central
I had a quick look in old newspapers.
1909 - the first match was 1st September and a list of players was given - Dady, Spink, Howarth, Lathom, Edmonds, JH Wright, Gregson, Gate, Oliver, Roberts & Lightfoot.
So maybe he joined during the season or just didn't play that day
September 1910 - Grant is listed as playing the first match
Obviously that is all the information given - not sure what else he is after?
I would suggest Paul looks at SGB - Southport.GB - and maybe posts on the Southport Past page. I'm sure someone may know something but it would help if he actually put what sort of information he wanted

| But his birth may have been re-registered - ask Seacop because she had one or more of those.
