Just to give me some idea...is this site expensive?  There is so much I want to do but so little time!      Cool

Hi Dotty
I think it's now about £9 a year - I've had some limited success - but it's worth a go (I'm also very careful about how much information I put on my tree on there) Wink

Hi seacop...could you PM me about the reasons you don't put too much info on the site?

Forewarned is forearmed, as they say!

Dotty it makes sense not to publicise anyone who is living on a tree on the Internet. You must always ask their permission first - better still don't add them. Or just put male or female.

The only contacts I found on Genes were living cousins I knew about.

On Genes you can elect for persons just to be shown as
"Living relative".
Think it goes back 100 years if you haven't put a death date in, or you can just put the first name as an initial.

I have had quite a few connections, just the other day was contacted by someone who has the same 3xgt grandparents (maternal side) as me in Staffordshire.
First connection in this line, so am well pleased.

Last week I met up with a 3rd cousin - I doubt we would have found each other without GR.
He was over from Ozland (having emigrated in 1969). We've had lots of interesting stuff to share - his grandmother was my grandfather's cousin, and his grandfather was the nephew of my grandfather's first wife
And that's not on my North Meols line

I've got a headache now, Brian...

So glad you have been successful.  It must be great to find family, no matter how far flung.

Hope all's well...

I've found a distant cousin in Australia through the Internet but on one of those Rootsweb sites. i left my surname interest long ago and suddenly about 5 years ago got a reply. We even managed to meet when they came over for a visit and will be catching up in person again later this summer.

Another distant relative started a site for that particular surname and not only did I make contact with him - the families originate from the Shropshire area and he lives in New Zealand - but I also found a 3rd cousin who lived in England and we met up.

I think the Internet can be a pain at times but mostly it is one of the best inventions ever Very Happy
