Well, folks, I am now in possession of the GRO Index of Births, Marriages and Deaths from c.1837 to 1920's (give or take a few years);  they were donated to the Rimmer FHS by Alan Rimmer of Stockton and typed up by Jane and Brian Scarisbrick - all 33,000 entries!   Am willing to do look-ups but please don't all rush at once
