After a few years subscribing to Ancestry I switched to The Genealogist (www.thegenealogist.co.uk) after reading an article about the site in a magazine. Being then used to Ancestry I have to confess I didn't like The Genealogist at first, but once I became more familiar with the site I preferred it. I managed to find families I hadn't found on Ancestry by taking advantage of the various search methods you can use. There are mistakes on the site, but they are very quick to change these if you point them out, and even with these mistakes I could find ancestors by using some of their more vague search methods. My subscription has recently expired, so I thought I would have another look at Ancestry before renewing, just out of curiosity, so I started a free trial. Having given it a go I have decided to stick with The Genealogist. Has anyone else tried both sites, and what do you think?

Hi
I haven't heard of that one but I will give it a go. Ancestry drives me mad sometimes as when you put in a search it sometimes says there's no-one by that name but here are 100s of others which may of use! The next time you look poof you find it straight away! I thought it was just me...
I'll have a look at the Genealogist,
Dotty
