I am trying to gather info on a family
Harry Ball married Ethel Hough Jun qtr 1928 Ormskirk district. Ethel was born 1904 in Southport daughter of John and Ellen Hough... the info I am trying to find is for HARRY can any one check the newspapers at the library for me and find out which Ball's he belongs too. I cannot even think of which line, like the rimmers there's to many. thought I would ask here first before trying to eke out the money for the marriage cert as funds are tight for everyone.... I am assuming he was a local guy so it should have made the papers. thanks for any help you can give.

I have no idea when he was born! I assume there would be about a 2/3 year gap so around 1900
as you can see I'm spoiled forchoice assuming he was local

| Just to put a spanner in the works - is it possible that he was Henry and not Harry? My uncle and his son were always known as Harry but had been baptised Henry!

As it says Harry in the marriage indexes then that should be correct. People should (although some didn't!) use their birth name when marrying or on official documents.
1928 for marriages in local papers might be a long shot though. Only the 'posh' would have got in I would think at that time.

| The registration district for Southport was originally Ormskirk, then Southport then back to Ormskirk and finally Sefton North as it is now.

Are you sure that it reverted to Ormskirk? Southport was a county borough until the 1974 "reforms" when it became part of the new metropolitan borough of Sefton. It seems unlikely that registrations would have gone to Ormskirk.
