Society members are offered a FREE research service

However, there is a charge for photocopying (by the library)

The society is now happy to let our overseas members know they can now pay through Genfair.

Of course members in this country can also pay through Genfair.
Makes things easier

As said in the initial post - a limited amount of FREE research is available. I am happy to look for names/address in a local directory, an entry in the electoral role (address must be known) or something like a funeral report in an old paper as long as I am given a date. Just no spare time to search through months & months.

I charge nothing
The library charge 50 pence per photocopy from newspapers or 10 pence for other photocopying using the machine.
Postage will also be charged

Up until now it has been difficult for overseas members to pay. Hopefully this will help

The society isn't making any extra money merely covering costs

I sometimes wonder if there is any mileage is charging a basic fee for searches - it seems that most Societies do that these days; if a charge of, say, £2 was made then the Society gets half and the 'researcher' takes half and if there's any expenses (photocopying, etc) then that's extra. I know that sometimes you have to pay bus fare so you really should not be out of pocket and if you get enough searches it would cover a coffee as well

i offer to do it for free. This was discussed at a recent committee meeting. I am happy to continue as it is. Something else worth joining our society for

Just thought I would add that this service may only be available until December. It depends when the library closes and where they move the local history resources.

I shall of course keep the forum updated as and when we hear any news
