Not sure whether this has been discussed before but I was wondering whether the recording of talks by members is possible?
Being an overseas member it is one of the things I'd be really interested in listening to as the chances of me ever attending one is pretty remote.
Once recorded the talks can (maybe) placed on the website for members to download. I don't know what copyright issues are involved (if any) but I sure that can be overcome.
Not sure whether there any other societies that provide this feature but I think it would be worthwhile. I also think it would be a useful marketing tool to attract new members especially ones that don't live locally.
Just a thought.

| Now that is an excellent idea. I have no objection to any talk that I do being recorded.

That would be good although there are some of our talks which do rely on slides or a power point presentation. There are others which don't though.
So Bob as they say watch this space....................

| I recently helped out at Churchtown Primary School giving talks about the school in World War II. They recorded the talks and were talking about producing them on the school web site as 'podcasts'. Something I havn't got round to doing myself yet but is not difficult - so I've been told!!!

Um this might well be worth looking into then Ken. Maybe between us all we shall work it out.
I will have to go and have a nosy at the Churchtown school web site now
Oh and those talks sound interesting - maybe you could do something for the society? I bet Linda would be interested........

this was discussed at the committee meeting. Sadly we have to say it isn't possible
We don't have the equipment or expertise to tape talks or put them on the net as pod casts.
I think most of us also agreed that 80% of the talks rely on visual aids - many speakers have slides, PowerPoint presentations etc.
So sorry to our overseas members but as I say it just isn't feasible for us to tape our talks
