Well with 196 Sumners & 282 Jacksons, would you believe the only possible match I have found in my database is William Twist (1807) and I'm not 100% sure about that one

Here are my Sumners:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/c...&db=bgriffiths&recno=7786
and Jacksons:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/c...&db=bgriffiths&recno=4843

Brian

PS If the earlier stuff looks a bit like Joyce Otterstrom's "Park" data that's because it is where most of it came from

the sumners i can believe!! i havn't found anyone from that line yet?
my jacksons are from rainford hannah and caleb are sibblings and the only 2 in southport i have found so far.
william twist ??
i'm not sure now  it was so long ago i did that i will have to go back over it as you have him as dying 25 nov 1830
and i have him dying in 1840 and marrying ellen sumner on the 9th nov 1830! now that wouldn't be good 16 days after marrage!!! or explain 2 children born 1830 and 35
same parents but thats no use if i'm wrong

I did say I wasn't 100% sure - this bit did come from "Park". The names are the same but Sumner & Twist are common enough. The Ellen Sumner in this marriage is not actually one of mine, but an in-law; also the William Twists seem to have different birthplaces; so maybe not after all

The Ancestry trees are probably also based on "Park" so it does not surprise me that there are others. I'm thinking it may well be a different William Twist & Ellen Sumner! Happens all too frequently; We are presently trying to sort out the parents of 2 Richard Halsalls, almost the same age,  who both married girls called Sarah. They don't make it easy
I note that "Park" does seem to conclude that it is the same Willliam Twist (son John is as in your database married to Alice Brookfield.) I haven't put this family into my tree as I have not been able to trace it satisfactorily in the censuses. I do see Ellen Twist with (presumed) sons John & Thomas living with Thomas & Martha Sumner in 1841, but William is not there. Now if William is the one who died in 1830 he could be John's father but not Thomas's. One possibility of course is that Ellen had an illegitimate child. Unfortunately I don't have a christening record for Thomas Twist which would prove this.

There was also a William Twist baptised 25th August 1811, the son of James and Margaret Twist of Scarisbrick.  He would have been 18 in 1829, so old enough to have married.

Following the marriage of William Twist and Ellen Sumner I only have one baptism for a child of a William Twist and that is 14th Feb 1836, John son of William and MARTHA Twist of Scarisbrick - so appears to be someone different.

Have you looked at the Ormskirk registers?
