Anyone have any information on when & where the photographer Partington was working in Southport. I have a photo of my GGG grandparents, who died 1869 & 1870, and was wondering if any info on the studio might help to date the picture more precisely.
Judging by their age and the image quality, I would assume it was taken in the 5-10 years before their deaths

| The only way I can think of to check is looking in the old street directories. They may have advertised or being listed under photographers

A Google search on "Partington Photographer Southport" brings up a few hits
Lambert Partington seems to have worked from a studio on Bath Street at some time
I had a similar query about another Southport photographer. A quick email to Southport library got a very helpful response from Matthew Tinker, who kindly trawled through the directories for me

I have to admit... I hadn't explored google, as it seemed so obscure a search. This is great. The first hit is a page with Cartes de visite, and this is the same Partington logo as on the foot of my photo.
Even this alone helps a great deal. Lambert was living in Manchester with his parents in 1861, was in North Meols 1871 but this does confirm that the photo was taken between 1861 & 1869. Not sure if there's going to be any easy way to find out when he arrived in Southport, to narrow the date down further.
Anyway... thanks for that lead. Brill!

Been doing some more digging. In 1871, Lambert was shown as married and boarding in Southport with Clara Partington aged 36, married born London. Clearly showing as a married couple.
There's no marriage for them (tried partington & Lambert separately in case of misspelling), There's also no death for Clara. In 1876, Lambert married Mary Hannah Whitley.
It seems Lambert lived "over the brush" with Clara and they perhaps separated. If only he'd married her, I could get a better indication of his wherabouts between 1861 & 71.
