John Yates is my 3G Grandfather. Jane and Bez were kind enough to find, photograph and to provide the transcript for his grave.

Please when someone has their next trip to Crosby Library would it be possible to see if there is an obituary for him in the Southport Visiter? He was buried 17 April 1877 and died 13 April 1877 aged 33.

Thank you!!

How about emailing Crosby library and asking the staff there to look him up - or  are the newspaper microfilms in the temporary library in Southport?  Jane, can you help me out here please?

I doubt there would be one. Obituary's were often in the papers from about 1900 - or later. The early papers would maybe have them for the more renown person.

If you have a date it is worth emailing the library direct. In the past anything that took less than about 10-15 minutes would usually be looked up for free. Of course this was in the old days when we had more than one local historian so it might have changed but still worth a try
