Hi, Back after a few years! I was in Southport last week for the funeral of my S in L Pat Green nee Tomlinson. I took the opportunity to search for the grave of my step father Alfred Morris Dowling in St Cuthbert's without success. I attended the funeral in 1965 so he is there somewhere.
I did however come across a number of Tomlinson graves which surprised me as Pat told me her family came from Yorkshire and she didn't know of any family in Southport.
Can I post the photos I took of the gravestones and if so where? Does anyone know of Tomlinsons in Southport in the 1800s?

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your post.  Sorry that your visit was for a sad reason.

You could post your photos to this section and then Admin can move them to a permanent position later on.

Regards

Dotty

PS

We have a copy of the burial register for St Cuthbert's so I will email the caretaker to check out your query.

Hi Ray,  I have found Alfred Morris Dowling, buried 20.03.1963, aged 65;  he is in Section 4, Grave No. 540;   it also says A/M05;   when the weather clears I'll go and have a look for you.   Take care, Gladys

Thanks Gladys, that would be great. I am interested who else, if anybody, is on the grave stone.

Hi Ray,  Lovely day here in Southport so I took the opportunity to sneak out for a short walk around St Cuthbert's!    Found the grave and took a couple of pictures so if you pm me your e-mail address I will send them to you;  the headstone states as follows:
In Loving Memory of
Maria
Beloved wife of
Alfred M Dowling
who died March 12th 1952
aged 46 years.

The Entry in the Parish Register reads:
Maria Dowling, wife of Alfred Morris, died 12.03.1952, buried 15.03.1952, aged 46.
162 Milton Street (Southport Infirmary

For Alfred Morris:
Alfred Morris Dowling, 7 Russell Avenue, (husband of Maria) buried 20.03.1963, aged 65.
His name is not on the headstone.

Hi Ray,
I have Tomlinsons in Croston / Ulnes Walton in 1700s so  it seems unsurprising that a branch was present on the coast in the 1800s.

Hi Ray

There is a sizeable Tomlinson contingent through the 1800s. I have over 100 in the database, from mid-1700s to early 20th century

Hi Brian,

Is your database still available for others to browse?

It's a lovely day here in North Meols...

Hi Dotty

Greetings from sunny Cambridge   Yes the database is still there, take your pick:
Rootsweb: http://tinyurl.com/bgtree
My website: http://www.briangriffiths.co.uk
Ancestry user public tree: familytree1758

The earlier stuff will look suspiciously similar to Joyce O's "Park" database af course
